All the painters in this show were born in Linz or are in some way
related to this industrial town. Linz is famous for being the favorite
city of Adolf Hitler, who planned it to be his retirement city, with
an impressive collection of "Beutekunst" housed in monumental
architecture, which was to be erected once the war was won.
Linz is one of the few European cities to house Third Reich
architecture,
like i.e. the Hermann-Goring-Werke. Originally this factory was used
for
manufacturing of ammunition. Yet today it is one of the most modern
steel
plants in Europe.
The European Union has declared Linz the cultural capitol for 2009.
